The Hermann Sudermann Society of Šilutė and the F. Bajoraitis Public Library of Šilutė invite you on Saturday, September 27, at 11:00 a.m. to the presentation of the new edition of German writer Hermann Sudermann’s book “Journey to Tilsit” (“Kelionė į Tilžę”).
The event will be moderated by society member Daiva Trijonienė.
The mixed choir of sacred music “Laudamus” from Šilutė Cultural Center (led by Irena Šemeklienė) will also perform.

“Journey to Tilsit” is an unusual and intriguing publication – a book written more than a century ago by Hermann Sudermann (Hermano Zudermano). Far from outdated or boring, it is a vivid, emotional, and atmospheric story about a vanished world – Lithuania Minor and its inhabitants, the Lietuvininkai, their dramas, love, dreams, losses, and small victories. The author drew the plots of his stories from real life – from the reality in which the German urban and Lithuanian rural worlds met and intertwined, where fading traditions encountered the rise of modernity, where the harsh lagoon and seaside nature contrasted with the gentle longing of people.

The book was translated by Adomas Druktenis.
The publication was initiated by the Hermann Sudermann Society of Šilutė.

All are warmly welcome!
