Vilkėnai Watermill

In 1843, at the initiative of Count Pranciškus Plater, the Švėkšnalė River was dammed and a watermill was built at this site. It is part of the Vilkėnai manor estate complex.
In 1891, a flood broke through the dam, and the mill was restored. In 1936, a diesel engine was installed to power the mill during water shortages. The mill operated until 1964.
In 1993, the estate was returned to the Plater family heirs, and in 1995, a full renovation of the watermill was completed. It now houses a hotel and restaurant.
