In 1917, a committee was formed to establish a gymnasium, and on April 16, 1918, \u0160ilokar\u010dema Gymnasium-Lyceum began its operations. It was named after Herder. The first class of graduates completed their studies in 1926.<br>In 1928, a committee was formed to build a new school building. The land for construction was donated by landowner Hugo Scheu, and the project was designed by local architect Kurt Gutknecht. The Herder Gymnasium building was officially opened on October 11, 1930.<br>The \u0160ilut\u0117 Herder Gymnasium operated until the autumn of 1944. After World War II, the premises became home to \u0160ilut\u0117 First Gymnasium, later transformed into a secondary school.
