From the 16th century until World War II, the most prominent feature of the town of \u0160ilut\u0117 was the massive markets held in the Old Market Square. Fishermen, farmers, and merchants from nearby settlements, as well as traders from K\u00f6nigsberg and Klaip\u0117da, and Samogitians from Greater Lithuania would gather there. Next to the market square, the first tavern was built, which is believed to have sparked the expansion of the town of \u0160ilut\u0117. The famous fish market operated in the square for several centuries.
The Old Market Square in \u0160ilut\u0117 is still surrounded by old buildings. Its layout, only slightly altered by an embankment built along the bend of the \u0160y\u0161a River and the stone pavement beneath the asphalt, has remained intact. Located near the \u0160y\u0161a bend, the \u0160ilut\u0117 Manor, and the iron bridge on the road to Rusn\u0117, the square served as a marketplace for almost 500 years.
The Old Market Square in \u0160ilut\u0117 is one of the town\u2019s oldest historical sites, associated with significant stages of its development. In 2022, the square was renovated. <\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
